I've been writing about skincare and beauty for over a decade, testing products on my own skin and reading labels most people skip.
I grew up hearing ‘wear sunscreen’ on repeat. By my late-30s, I religiously applied sunscreen daily. I was terrified of “crepey” sun-damaged skin. Or skin cancer, which runs in my family.
For years, I thought I was doing the right thing.
That was until I discovered something the FDA has known for years about sunscreen but the public is only now just hearing about.

In 2019 and 2020, the Journal of the American Medical Association released not one but two studies that changed everything we thought we knew about sunscreen.
Researchers asked volunteers to apply conventional sunscreen normally. Once in the morning. Then reapplied throughout the day. Much like you probably do.
Then they tested their blood and found something shocking.
Within hours, petroleum-derived UV filters like avobenzone and oxybenzone were found in their bloodstream – at concentrations more than 500 times the FDA’s safety threshold.
And you’re told to wear them for 8+ hours a day.
Even after people stopped using sunscreen, these chemicals were still found in their bloodstream weeks later.
Is it any wonder women are dealing with unexplained hormonal issues, skin sensitivities, and chronic inflammation?
Because once they enter your bloodstream, they don't just disappear…

Most people think all sunscreen works the same way. But there’s a dirty secret that sunscreen manufacturers don’t ever tell you.
Those chemical UV filters seeping into your skin? This isn’t an unexpected byproduct. This is actually what they are DESIGNED to do.
What nobody’s ever told you is that chemical sunscreens work by absorbing UV radiation inside the skin, triggering a chemical reaction inside your body that converts UV rays into heat.
It's like swallowing a tiny space heater to stay warm instead of wearing a coat.
This whole time, I thought I was taking care of my body by applying sunscreen daily.
But now, as I stared at the ingredients label on my tube of sunscreen in my bathroom cabinet, I never wanted to put conventional sunscreen on my skin again.
It felt like I was then left with an impossible choice just like millions of other people.

I felt trapped.
I began avoiding going out in daylight hours completely.
I declined social activities.
On the rare occasions I would go out, I’d wear 3 layers of clothing in the middle of summer. This left me covered in sweat and feeling gross.
I thought avoiding the sun like a hermit was the only option I had.
Until I stumbled across the story of a young health researcher who'd faced exactly the same dilemma – but actually did something about it.

Health researcher Max Medroso didn’t start out as a sunscreen expert. His journey began when reversing his chronic health issues became his mission.
“I’d struggled with mystery, chronic health conditions for years,” Medroso explains.
“I’d seen endless specialists who prescribed all kinds of medications. But no one connected the dots between my diet and my chronic health problems.
"By replacing processed foods with whole, ancestral ingredients, Medroso transformed his health, dropping 40 pounds and reversing his chronic health issues.
Years later, standing at 19,000 feet at the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro – one of the highest UV exposure on Earth – he made a discovery that shocked him to his core.
As he applied sunscreen, he realized he was allowing chemicals he’d eliminated from his diet back into his system.
The hypocrisy hit him hard – and he feared the return of his chronic health issues.
As Max descended Mt Kilimanjaro he wondered: If ancestral ingredients transformed my internal health, what would they do for my skin?
That question led him to partner with cosmetic chemists to create something completely new – a breakthrough that meant wearing sunscreen didn’t have to mean poisoning your body.

Unlike standard chemical sunscreens that absorb into your bloodstream, Sky & Sol uses zinc oxide that sits on your skin's surface, reflecting and scattering UV rays like tiny mirrors.
No penetration. No absorption. No bloodstream circulation.
Remarkably, zinc oxide is the only FDA-approved ingredient that protects against the full spectrum of UVA and UVB on its own.
But up until now, there was one problem:
The white cast.
Anyone who has ever tried mineral sunscreens has experienced it.
I had too. Every time I applied mineral sunscreen, I became so chalky my boyfriend joked that I looked like a ghost.
So I’d go right back to chemical sunscreens despite knowing what they were doing to my body.

After 18 months of research, Sky & Sol discovered something other sunscreen brands had been missing all along.
It turns out the white cast wasn't a zinc problem.
It was a formulation problem.
Most mineral sunscreens suspend zinc in water-based formulas or cheap silicones to make them spreadable.
This is why zinc particles clump together, creating that chalky appearance.
Sky & Sol finally solved this long-term problem by doing something no other sunscreen had.

By suspending zinc oxide in natural fat-based carriers like tallow and jojoba oil – which are similar to our body’s natural oils – the zinc disperses naturally.
This is what Sky & Sol calls their Anti-White Cast Technology™:

Sky & Sol's SPF 30 Face and Body Sunscreen delivers broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection using 25% non-nano zinc oxide.
But what makes it truly different is what's underneath the zinc.
Every ingredient is held to what they call the SkyCertified™ Edible-Grade Standard.
The proprietary formula includes:
That’s it.
SHOP SKY AND SOL SUNSCREENMost sunscreens leave your skin dry or greasy. Sky & Sol's SPF 30 Face and Body Sunscreen leaves it protected AND moisturized – like combining your sunscreen and daily moisturizer into one step.
And unlike most companies, Sky & Sol even share a certificate of analysis for every ingredient. You don’t often see this kind of transparency.

"Sky & Sol has been a great resource for my friends, family and patients! I'm always on the lookout for skincare products that are not only natural, but also effective. I appreciate the lineup and ingredients they use, and the application of all their topicals are all smooth and non-greasy. The application itself also provides phenomenal protection against UVA and UVB rays. I highly recommend Sky & Sol for daily use and outdoor activities!"

A lot of my friends joke that I’m a penny pincher because I buy my clothes from thrift stores.
So when I first heard about Sky & Sol's SPF 30 Face and Body Sunscreen, I thought oh great, another natural skincare product that’s going to cost at least $90-$100+.
But I was pleasantly surprised to see the price wasn’t anywhere near that.
A tube that lasts up to 3 months is just $29.99.
That’s less than 30 cents per day. About 20 times less than a single almond latte.
And even though it’s surprisingly affordable, you really can’t put a price on protecting your skin from sun damage and skin cancer anyway.

For a limited time, Sky & Sol are offering a special Holiday Season discount of up to 15% plus free shipping on their Sky & Sol's SPF 30 Face and Body Sunscreen exclusively for readers of this article.
Many buyers are stocking up on multiple tubes before this special price ends and it goes back up to full price.
You can’t take any chances when it comes to protecting your skin. That’s why the Sky & Sol team offer a 180-Day, 100% satisfaction guarantee.
If for any reason, Sky & Sol doesn't live up to your expectations within the first 180 days of use, simply return it and their team will give you a full refund – even if the product has been used!
