Does tallow sunscreen actually work?

Yes, when it is paired with a mineral UV filter. Tallow alone does not block UV rays. Our tallow sunscreen combines nourishing grass-fed tallow with 25% non-nano zinc oxide to deliver broad-spectrum SPF 30 and SPF 50 protection that is tested and reef safe.

Can beef tallow be used as sunscreen on its own?

No. Beef tallow moisturizes and supports the skin barrier but has no reliable SPF, so it cannot protect you from sunburn by itself. Always use a sunscreen with zinc oxide, like ours, for real broad-spectrum coverage.
